The White House announces the shipment of additional military assistance
July 20 () –
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has reported the delivery of 169 million dollars (about 164 million euros) in humanitarian aid to the victims of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The US Embassy in Ukraine has announced the new aid package and has indicated that the funds will be used for “food, shelter, water, hygiene products and medical supplies”, among others.
Thus, he has stated that Washington has been helping the Ukrainians “since day one of the war,” according to information released through the Twitter account of the diplomatic mission.
The US government has also indicated that it will deliver additional military assistance by sending HIMARS multiple rocket launcher systems and ammunition, as confirmed by the US National Security spokesman, John Kirby.
In a brief press conference at the White House, he stressed that the administration of the president, Joe Biden, intends to make the announcement at the end of this week. The North American country has already made more than fifteen shipments of this type to Ukraine since Biden took office.
In addition, it is expected that the Ukrainians will thus have more ammunition and shields against bombing. Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksi Reznikov has asserted that the country needs at least a hundred such systems to carry out an effective counterattack.
Kirby has in turn warned that Russia is preparing the annexation of the occupied Ukrainian territories as part of its invasion. “The Kremlin has not given a timetable for the referendum, but Russian minions say it will be later this year and coincide with regional elections in Russia,” she said.
In this sense, he has clarified that the annexation “by force of territory captured in Ukraine would be a serious violation of the Charter of the United Nations” and has insisted that “he will not allow this to go unanswered or punished”.
