5 Amazing Things GPT-4 Can Do That ChatGPT Couldn’t

() — The first day after its introduction, GPT-4 wowed many users in early tests and a company demo with its ability to write demands, pass standardized tests, and create a functional website from a hand-drawn sketch. .

On Tuesday, OpenAI advertisement the next-generation version of the artificial intelligence technology that underpins their viral chatbot tool, ChatGPT. The more powerful GPT-4 promises to surpass previous iterations, potentially changing the way we use the Internet to work, play, and create. But it could also add challenging questions about how artificial intelligence (AI) tools can change professions, allow students to cheat, and change our relationship with technology.

GPT-4 is an updated version of the enterprise language model, which is trained on large amounts of online data to generate complex responses to user requests. It’s now available via a waiting list and has already found its way into some third-party products, including Microsoft’s new AI-powered Bing search engine. Some users with early access to the tool share their experiences and highlight some of its most compelling use cases.

Here’s a closer look at the potential of GPT-4.

GPT-4 analyzes more than text

In essence, the biggest change in GPT-4 is its ability to work with user-uploaded photos.

One of the most amazing use cases so far came from a video demo of OpenAI that showed how a drawing could be turned into a functional website in a matter of minutes. The demonstrator loaded the image into GPT-4 and then pasted the resulting code into a preview showing what a working website might look like.

In its announcement, OpenAI also showed how GPT-4 was requested to explain a joke from a series of images, showing a smartphone with the wrong charger, and describe why it was funny. While it may seem straightforward, dissecting a joke is more difficult for AI tools to detect due to the context required.

In another test, The New York Times showed GPT-4 a picture of the inside of a refrigerator and asked him to prepare a meal based on the ingredients.

The photos feature is not yet available, but OpenAI is expected to implement it in the coming weeks.

Coding is even easier

Some early adopters of GPT-4 with little or no prior coding knowledge have also used it to recreate iconic games like Pong, Tetris or Snake after following the step by step instructions provided by the tool on how to do it. Others have made their own original games. (GPT-4 can write code in all major programming languages, according to OpenAI.)

“GPT-4’s powerful language capabilities will be used for everything from storyboarding, character creation to game content creation,” said Arun Chandrasekaran, an analyst at Gartner Research. “This could lead to more independent game providers in the future. But beyond the game itself, GPT-4 and similar models can be used to create marketing content around game previews, generate news articles, and even moderate game discussion forums.”

Similar to games, GPT-4 could change the way people develop apps. A user on Twitter said that created a simple drawing app in minuteswhile another claimed to have encoded an application that recommends five movies new ones every day, as well as providing trailers and details on where to watch them.

“Coding is like learning to drive: as long as the beginner is guided, anyone can code,” said Lian Jye Su, an analyst at ABI Research. “AI can be a good teacher.”

Pass tests with flying colors

Although OpenAI said the update is “less capable” than humans in many real-world scenarios, it exhibits “human-level performance” in various professional and academic tests. The company said GPT-4 recently passed a mock law school exam with scores in the top 10% of test takers. By contrast, the previous version, GPT-3.5, scored around the bottom 10%. The latest version also performed strongly on the LSAT, GRE, SAT, and many AP exams, according to OpenAI.

In January, ChatGPT made headlines for its ability to pass prestigious graduate exams, like one from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, but not with particularly high marks. The company said it spent months using lessons from its test program and ChatGPT to improve the system’s accuracy and ability to stay on topic.

Provide more accurate answers

Compared to the previous version, GPT-4 can produce longer, more detailed and more reliable written responses, according to the company.

The latest version can now provide answers of up to 25,000 words, up from 4,000 previously, and can provide detailed instructions for even the most unique scenarios, from how to clean a piranha’s fish tank to how to extract DNA from a strawberry. One early user said he provided detailed suggestions for pickup lines based on a question listed on a dating profile.

Optimize work in various industries

Joshua Browder, CEO of legal services chatbot DoNotPay, said his company already working on using of the “one-click lawsuit” tool to sue robocallers, an early indication of the great potential of GPT-4 to change the way people work across industries.

“Imagine receiving a call, clicking a button, [la] call is transcribed and a demand for 1,000 words is generated. GPT-3.5 wasn’t good enough, but GPT-4 does the job extremely well,” Browder tweeted.

Meanwhile, Jake Kozloski, CEO of dating site Keeper, said that your company is using the tool to better engage with its users.

According to Su at ABI Research, we may also see major advances in “[tableros] of connected cars, remote diagnostics in healthcare, and other AI applications that were not possible before.

a work in progress

Although the company has made vast improvements to its AI model, GPT-4 has similar limitations to previous versions. OpenAI said that the technology lacks knowledge of events that occurred before its dataset was cutoff (September 2021) and does not learn from its experience. You can also make “simple reasoning errors” or be “overly gullible in accepting obvious false statements from a user” and fail to double-check work, the company said.

Gartner’s Chandrasekaran said this also reflects many AI models today. “Let’s not forget that these AI models are not perfect,” Chandrasekaran said. “They can produce inaccurate information from time to time and can be black box in nature.”

For now, OpenAI said GPT-4 users should be careful and use “extreme care,” particularly “in high-risk contexts.”
