( Spanish) — An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 shook Peru this Friday night, according to reports from the United States Geological Survey (USGS, for its acronym in English).
The seismic focus was located at a depth of 7.7 kilometers and the epicenter was located 72.3 kilometers northeast of Ica and 65 kilometers northeast of Santiago, Peru.
According to the USGS, at least four earthquakes of magnitude greater than 5.0 have been presented this friday in the same area.
The reason for the repeated earthquakes today, explains the Geophysical Institute of Peru, is due to the “contact collision between the Nazca and South American plates.”

National Emergency Operations Center (Coen) and the National Police of Peru have not reported fatalities after the earthquakes.
