At least 40 people, mostly children, have died in a bus crash carrying dozens of pilgrims to a celebration marking the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Mohammed in the northern Nigerian state of Kaduna, authorities have confirmed.
The incident occurred on Sunday when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a truck travelling in the opposite direction in the Lere area, according to Nigerian daily ‘Punch’.
Federal Highway Patrol Corps Commander Kabiru Nadabo said 25 people were killed on the spot and 48 others were injured, 15 of whom died after being admitted to various hospitals.
