2nd Meeting of the G20 Working Group on Tourism is held

The 2nd Meeting of the G20 Tourism Working Group under the current Indian G20 Presidency it will take place from 1 to 4 April 2023 in Siliguri and Darjeeling in West Bengal.

More than 130 participants, including delegates from G20 members, invited countries, invited international organizations, industry partners and local tour operators, will take part in the meeting. It will be opened by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and DoNER, G. Kishan Reddy, and the Secretary of State for the Ministry for Minority Affairs, John Barla.

This meeting will continue the discussions from the previous G20 Tourism meeting held in Rann of Kutch, Gujarat in February 2023. India’s G20 Tourism Working Group has identified five priority areas for the Chairmanship, namely: Green Tourism , Digitization, Skills, Tourism MiPyMES and Destination Management.

All the priorities were well received and supported by the G20 delegates participating in the previous meeting. Under the general motto of “Travel for LiFE”, the G20 Tourism track is working to promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the development of green, inclusive and resilient tourism.

India has identified five priority areas for the Presidency, namely: Green Tourism, Digitization, Skills, Tourism MSMEs and Destination Management

On the sidelines of the meeting, a round table on “Adventure tourism as a vehicle to achieve the SDGs” will also be organized. In addition, various activities involving Janbhagidari have been scheduled to allow foreign delegates to experience local arts, crafts and culture. Participants will also take a ride on the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train), a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
