Oct. 7 (Portaltic/EP) –
2K Games has alerted an indefinite number of users who have been affected by the hack that in September gained access to the help service, from whom information provided to the company would have been obtained.
A malicious actor obtained the credentials to access and from the 2K help desk send emails to users with a malicious link. The investigation that has followed this incident, which took place in September, has concluded that he was able to access user information.
This information would be what the users themselves would have provided to the support team when raising any questions or problems, such as emails, attendee ID number, ‘gamertag’ and console details.
These data would have copied for later sale. 2K assures, on its page of Questions and answersthat bank details, passwords and game assets have not been affected by this unauthorized access.
The company has started contacting those who received the email with the malicious link, regardless of whether they will click on it or not. But those who did have been exposed to password theft, and therefore advises them “reboot the computer and use cybersecurity best practices”, that is, reset all passwords, activate a multi-factor authentication system and use an updated antivirus.
The resource of restarting the computer is broken down from the subsequent investigation, and responds to the fact that the company believes that it will offer “additional protection against malware”.
