SEOUL, 2 Jan. (DPA/EP) –
The South Korean Police have arrested 24 activists for the rights of people with motor disabilities after a protest action in the Seoul subway at rush hour that has caused delays in the service.
Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination (SCDD) has held several rallies in several of the capital’s main metro stations to demand greater investment to protect people with disabilities.
The activists, who were in wheelchairs, got on and off the station cars to cause delays in the middle of rush hour. “Agents from the Namdaemun police station are investigating 29 SCDD activists and 24 have been sent to the Prosecutor’s Office,” a police official was quoted as saying by the Yonhap news agency.
They are charged with crimes of obstructing traffic and disrupting the operation of the Seoul subway. Five other activists could be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office soon.
