On April 13, the ASEAN-Korea Center and the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) will hold the ASEAN-Korea Trade and Investment Roundtable 2023 with the theme ASEAN Indo-Pacific Outlook (AOIP) and Korea Indo-Pacific Strategy. The roundtable will take place in a hybrid format and will be broadcast live on the ASEAN Center-Korea YouTube channel at 2:00 p.m. (Korea time).In its third anniversary, the ASEAN-Korea Trade and Investment Roundtable has served as a platform to share views on the benefits of regional free trade agreements, such as the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, with businessmen and stakeholders from both ASEAN and Korea.
This year, the roundtable will focus on ASEAN and Korea’s regional strategies for the Indo-Pacific region through the AOIP, as well as the Republic of Korea’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. Specifically, the roundtable aims to share updates on economic and trade prospects and explore new opportunities for economic cooperation between ASEAN and Korea in the Indo-Pacific framework.

ASEAN Economic Community Assistant Secretary General Satvinder Singh and Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) Director Kwak Sungil will share how AOIP and the Republic of Korea’s Indo-Pacific Strategy can offer opportunities to enhance ASEAN-Korea partnerships and further contribute to regional growth.
In the following discussion sessions, experts from the Korea Institute of Industrial Economics and Trade, KIEP, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the ASEAN and East Asia Economic Research Institute will also exchange views and discuss ways to explore synergies through of cooperation in digital trade, climate change and supply chain, which are some of the priority strategic sectors for both ASEAN and Korea.

The Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Center, Kim Hae-yong, noted that “the roundtable is timely and significant, as discussions on tangible and practical economic cooperation efforts based on the context of regional strategies such as the AOIP and the Strategy Indo-Pacific of the Republic of Korea are needed by both ASEAN and Korea, especially amid global uncertainty and economic slowdown following COVID-19.”
He added: “The roundtable could provide insights for ASEAN and Korean entrepreneurs to discover potential business opportunities, thus contributing to strengthening the ASEAN-Korea partnership as a whole.”
