1X has developed a humanoid robot so advanced that it has begun testing it in the real world: this is NEO Beta

Humanoid Robot

Imagine a future where you can buy a robot to help you with household chores. Recent advances in robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) suggest we are getting closer to seeing something like this in real life. 1X, a company with offices and labs spread across the United States and Norway, has presented a humanoid robot called NEO Beta.

We are looking at a prototype of an autonomous biped designed for domestic use. Although this is not the first time we have seen a project with similar characteristics, 1X has not hesitated to launch a promise that could make a notable difference compared to other options: the firm assures that it has surpassed conceptual development and is ready to begin deploying its robot in homes as a test.

A humanoid robot for the home

1X says NEO will be able to provide assistance with different household tasks, such as completing errands, to clean up or organize items. The company explains that its robot resembles humans in many ways. Not only does its shape allow it to move around different parts of the house, climbing stairs and opening doors, but its hydraulic system can move things smoothly or with great force.

This 164cm tall, 29kg autonomous robot can move up to 19kg and boasts a range of 2-4 hours on a full charge. The device includes multiple sensors that drive an AI system. 1X uses what they call “embedded learning”. A teleoperator connects to the robot and gives a demonstration of how to do a certain thing for the robot to learn.

NEO should be able to operate autonomously in many scenarios, although the teleoperator can take over control at any time if necessary. This is where the issue of safety comes into play. The deployment of the prototype this year as a test responds to the need to test the technology. in real environments before beginning a broader rollout.

The company says that NEO’s design is designed for mass production, which would allow for the production of a huge number of units to meet a hypothetical global demand. These statements certainly remind us of those of Elon Musk, who envisions a future where almost everyone will want to have their own humanoid robot, although many questions remain unanswered.

It is currently unclear how much such a unit could be capable of and what its actual capabilities will be. In the video from demo posted by 1X we see NEO reaching for a backpack a young girl. Figure, for example, showed us its robot interacting in natural language with humans and organizing various elements. Figure’s most advanced units are already working in BMW factories.
