At least 16 people are missing after a Comoros-flagged oil tanker sank off the coast of Oman, authorities have confirmed, adding that search and rescue operations are still underway in the area.
The Omani Maritime Security Centre, which is part of the Ministry of Defence, said in a statement posted on its social media account X that the incident took place late on Monday about 25 nautical miles (about 46 kilometres) from Ras Masdraka.
He said the ship that sank was the ‘Prestige Falcon’, on which 16 crew members were travelling, and added that thirteen of the missing were Indian nationals, while the other three were Sri Lankan citizens. The cause of the incident is still unknown.
