At least 16 people have been electrocuted this Wednesday on a bridge at a waste treatment plant in the Indian town of Chamoli, located in the state of Utarajand (north), as confirmed by the authorities.
The Chamoli Police Superintendent, Pramendra Dobhal, has indicated that the authorities “received information about the death of a security guard after being electrocuted,” as reported by the Indian television channel NDTV.
“When police personnel went with residents to carry out an inspection, another 22 people were electrocuted and suffered serious injuries. A total of 15 later died in hospital, while the other seven are in critical condition,” it added.
The authorities have announced the delivery of compensation to the relatives of the victims, without for the moment there being any details about the reasons for the electrocutions at the plant, part of a conservation project to decontaminate the Ganges river.
