According to the data, production during the first half of the year reached 5.82 million bags, reflecting a growth of 16%. In this way, the behavior gives hope for recovery since the harvest of the first six months of the year reached 12.14 million bags, a figure that according to Bahamón had not been seen since 2021.
Regarding the international coffee trade, the leader of the sector detailed that only during June exports grew by 36%compared to the same month in 2023. In addition, these represented a total of 5.74 million bags in the first half of the year, which registered a growth of 15% compared to the same period last year.

Now, as is common, Colombia has used coffee imports from other nations for local consumption to make blends. However, One of the tasks of this sector is to ensure that grain consumption advances towards 100% national.
The task is being carried out, as the purchase of coffee from abroad continues to decrease “strongly”, where in June alone they were reduced by 64% and in the last mobile year they stood at 1.2 million bags, “a figure that is less than half of the imports for 2022,” said Bahamón.

Finally, it was highlighted that Domestic coffee consumption in Colombia has not changed and remains at 2.22 million bags year-on-year, “something that as a guild and industry we will continue to seek to improve. However, Looking at the behavior of imports, we could say that we are drinking more 100% Colombian coffee.“he concluded.
