15 Turkish-backed rebels killed in SDF operation in northern Syria

At least 15 members of Turkish-backed Syrian rebel groups have been killed in an operation carried out by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia, in northern Syria, it has been reported. the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The organization, based in London and informants in the Arab country, has indicated that the SDF “infiltrated” a position of the Liberation and Construction Movement in Al Daqlabash, in the province of Aleppo, which led to combats that left at least 15 dead in the ranks of the rebel group.

Likewise, he added that the Al Amshat faction, also backed by Ankara, opened fire with artillery against Tel Rafat, also in Aleppo and under the control of Kurdish forces, with no information on casualties due to this attack at the moment.

The SDF, supported by the international coalition led by the United States, participated in the fighting against the jihadist group Islamic State until its territorial defeat in the country in 2019. Turkey has criticized Washington for its support of the coalition due to the presence of the YPG, linked to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

The Turkish Army has launched several operations in Syrian territory to confront the YPG – which it considers a terrorist group, like the PKK -, while supporting various rebel groups present in areas outside the control of the forces. Syrians since the outbreak of the war in Syria in 2011.
