At least 15 people have died as a result of the sinking of a boat off the coast of the Senegalese capital, Dakar, as confirmed by the authorities, with no details on the causes of the event for the moment.

Sources from the National Gendarmerie cited by the Senegalese state news agency, APS, have indicated that several people have been rescued, including two who have been arrested. Search and rescue work continues in the area.

For its part, the Senegalese newspaper ‘Le Soleil’ has indicated that the event would have taken place around 1:00 am (local time) in the surroundings of the Divinity Mosque. Municipal sources cited by this medium have pointed out that the victims “would be migrants”, although there is no official confirmation.
