Moroccan security forces have arrested 13 alleged followers of the Islamic State terrorist group in a macro operation carried out in several cities, including Casablanca and Tangier, according to authorities, who have warned that some of the suspects had identified targets. and investigated the manufacture of explosives.
The operation, in which the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ, for its French acronym) and the Judicial Police have collaborated, have arrested 13 people between the ages of 19 and 49. The agents have seized propaganda material, including pamphlets “authorizing suicide operations and inciting violence,” reports the official MAP news agency.
The authorities have reported that some of the detainees had already come into contact with terrorists outside Morocco to join Islamic State affiliates in other parts of Africa.
