MADRID Jan. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Around 120 civilians have died due to a series of artillery attacks carried out on Monday against the city of Omdurman, adjacent to the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, according to activists, without ruling on whether they were the responsibility of the Army or the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The Ombada Emergency Room, a civil organization that operates in Omdurman, has indicated in a statement on its Facebook social network account that “due to indiscriminate artillery attacks against Dar al Salam, the initial death toll is 120 martyrs”.
“There is a serious shortage of essential medical supplies, with a large number of injuries of varying degrees,” said the agency, which does not rule out that the number of deaths will increase in the coming hours. For now neither the Army nor the RSF have commented on the matter.
Sudan is mired in a civil war following increased tensions over the integration of the RSF – now declared a terrorist group – into the Armed Forces, a key part of an agreement signed in December. 2022 to form a new civilian government and reactivate the open transition after the 2019 overthrow of Omar Hasan al Bashir.
