What are pendulum states?
Swing states are characterized by having deeply politically divided populations. At the same time, they have diverse and growing populations. In these states, the electoral results have given victories to Democrats and Republicans, swinging from one extreme to the other, like a pendulum movement.

These are contested territories where candidates visit most frequently and spend the most on political ads.
The number of swing states increases election after election. This occurs for various reasons such as demographic change or economic crises.
On the one hand, the population segments of African Americans and Latinos have increased considerably in recent years in traditionally Republican states such as Arizona and Georgia.
While in other traditionally blue or Democratic countries, the relocation of companies and the high unemployment rate have tilted the white working class and middle class vote towards the Republican Party.
Especially since 2008 there was an increase in these States, when Barack Obama won in counties that had been voting Republican with significant majorities for decades. The former president won Indiana, North Carolina and Virginia.
This increase in swing states has led campaigns to focus more on new territories to capture key votes.
