YouTube Premium and Music add 80 million subscribers worldwide

Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music at YouTube and Google, highlighted YouTube’s mission to be a place for all music fans, which has been reflected in the dividends the platform brings to the music industry. In fact, the company also indicated that it has paid $6 billion to artists, between July 2021 and June 2022.

“Today’s news marks an important milestone in that journey. We will not stop here. We have a lot to do and look forward to driving further growth and contributions to the music industry,” Cohen concluded.

YouTube Music is also home to over 100 million songs, plus millions of little-known live performances, remixes, and diamonds in the rough. Giving fans a much more complete and easy experience, providing all kinds of formats, long, short, livestreams, podcasts and more.

Within the achievement of this historic brand, it is worth noting that YouTube Premium has recently received improvements in its functions, thus giving a better offer to the user, including after parties -which grant exclusive access to live broadcast content (such as the premiere of in person of the music video of Adele floating down a lazy river drinking wine) – access to discounts on the latest Google hardware and services like Google One.

How is it compared to other platforms?

Amazon Music has a premium service that also includes a catalog of 100 million songs, while in terms of users the big leagues are at stake between Disney+ and Netflix, in which the video streaming service that hosts Star Wars reached a total of 221.1 million subscribers.

With this figure, the digital platform surpassed Netflix for the first time, which has 220.6 million users. It should be noted that the numbers of the entertainment company refer to Disney +, ESPN and Hulu (including Live TV).

However, in the competition for audio, Spotify prevails with 195 million paying users, the same as reported in its most recent quarterly report.
