Podemos will consult those registered if they should maintain their support for the Government with their votes for the General State Budgets. “I want to ask those registered if they agree that Podemos should set two conditions for their vote in favor of the budgets,” announced the party’s general secretary, Ione Belarra, in a statement without questions this Monday. These two conditions are what he anticipated this Saturday at the Autumn Uni but he gives some details. The first is for the Executive to break relations with Israel and the second is a package of measures on housing to lower the rent by law by 40%.
“Our organization must exercise its power to the maximum and demand that the government at least minimally respect the mandate of the polls,” Belarra told those registered after the Executive meeting this Monday. The party thus shows its intention to make use of the four deputies it has in Congress and who are essential for the Government to be able to carry out any law without looking to the PP bench.
The two conditions are clear, although their approval would require a very broad consensus in the Congress of Deputies. “The first is for the Government to break diplomatic relations with the State of Israel, including a total arms embargo,” he announced in the statement. “There are millions of decent people who vote for Podemos but also for other parties who cannot understand that the Government is making us complicit in a genocide and that in one year we have been incapable of stopping the sale and movement of weapons,” he argued. .
And the second has to do with what he has called an “unprecedented housing crisis.” “By law, lower rents by 40%, prohibiting the purchase of a home by anyone who is not going to live in it, and prohibit Desokupa squad commands,” he demanded. “This unprecedented housing crisis is compromising the life plans of millions of people in Spain. They live and work for unscrupulous rentiers. Enough of leaving your salary on rent, enough of speculation reigning,” he said.
Those registered with Podemos will be able to vote between tomorrow and Sunday on the question posed by the party leadership.
