Von der Leyen cancels her trips for two weeks due to severe pneumonia

BRUSSELS Jan. 3 () –

The president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, has canceled all her trips during the first two weeks of January to recover from “severe pneumonia”, which will prevent her from traveling to Poland for the formal start of the current presidency of the Council of the EU.

Von der Leyen will also not go to Lisbon, where she was scheduled to give a speech, while the planned trip to Gdansk for the formal launch of the Polish presidency will take place later, according to Community Executive sources consulted by Europa Press.

The 66-year-old German conservative began her second term in December, for a period of five years. His last public act took place on December 20, when he traveled to Switzerland to sign the new framework of relations, one day after the last European Council of the year in Brussels.
