The Government of Venezuela has reproached the United States this Sunday for the downing of the alleged Chinese spy balloon in a military operation characterized by its “lack of seriousness”, by resorting to force to destroy what, according to Beijing, was a meteorological device which deviated from its trajectory in an incident of no major consequence.
Venezuela thus rejects an attack against a balloon that “had shown a technical failure and did not represent any military or physical threat against people on the ground.”
“Once again,” laments the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, “the United States resorts to the use of force, instead of treating this situation with the seriousness and responsibility that the case deserves.”
China, which at first limited itself to apologizing for what happened, has also gone on the diplomatic offensive in recent hours.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has expressed this Sunday its “firm discontent” for what it believes to be a “clear overreaction” by the United States after the shooting down of the alleged spy balloon and also reserves the right to give the “necessary responses”.
China lashed out at “the US side’s insistence on using force” calling it a “clear overreaction and a serious violation of international practice.”
