The United States authorities have asked the South Korean government on Monday to guarantee that its exports and supply chain to the North American country do not include forced labor carried out by the Uyghur minority in China.
Thus, they have asked South Korean companies to verify and analyze their production chains in depth to ensure that products destined for the United States do not involve this type of practice in the Chinese region of Xinjiang.
The Office of Customs and Border Protection of the United States has recalled that there is legislation in this regard to prevent, precisely, the forced labor of these communities. The legislation in question came into force in 2022 and prohibits products made entirely or in part in the aforementioned region of northwest China on the grounds that they are made through forced labor.
In this sense, he has insisted that Washington is trying to block the entry of these types of products through the use of analyzes carried out with artificial intelligence, but he has qualified that companies must also “take responsibility” and monitor their supply chains.
