UNRWA condemns the presence of "Palestinian armed actors" in its Jenin health center

The complaint coincides with the Palestinian Authority’s security operation against Islamist militias in the refugee camp

Dec. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, has condemned a raid this week by “Palestinian actors” against its health center in the refugee camp in the West Bank town of Jenin.

Although UNRWA has not specified which faction it refers to, this complaint coincides with a time of great tension in the area due to the security operation undertaken last week by the Palestinian Authority, the Palestinian government recognized by the international community, against members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad scattered throughout the area.

UNRWA, according to reports received, denounces that these “actors” are still in the health center and, given the security situation in the area, its workers “still cannot access the facility” over which it has “no control whatsoever.” .

The Jenin Camp Health Center, UNRWA reminds, is a facility that provides services to Palestinian refugees and is located in the center of the camp.

“This forced entry, as well as the presence of Palestinian armed actors, represents a new and flagrant disregard for United Nations facilities,” laments the UN agency before emphasizing that “it has occurred while the Palestinian Security Forces are carrying out carried out an operation in and around the camp, which has continued since December 14.”

“UNRWA service delivery in the camp has been severely undermined by the unstable security situation since early December, with residents unable to consistently access basic services,” the agency warns.

Finally, UNRWA “calls on all parties to respect the inviolability of its facilities, which are protected by international law” before demanding that the invaders “immediately vacate” the center to “restore its humanitarian character and continue providing services.” to Palestinian refugees.

THE AP IS LIMITED TO REPORTING ON DEMINING ACTIVITIES IN THE VICINITY

The official spokesman for the Palestinian security forces, Brigadier General Anwar Rajab, has not commented on these complaints and has limited himself to reporting this Saturday that the security services are working in the vicinity of the center to deactivate explosive devices placed for “outlaws,” as he describes Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives.

“We have been able to defuse an explosive device placed by outlaws in front of the UNRWA health center and two other bombs placed in the same area,” he explained in a press conference reported by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.

The spokesperson stressed that the security services will continue to pursue these individuals, who will be “brought to justice to be held accountable for the crimes they have committed.”
