Two mercenaries from the Wagner Group are killed during an attack by the CPC militias in the western Central African Republic

21 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Two mercenaries from the Russian Wagner group have died in an attack carried out this past morning by the militias of the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC) in the west of the Central African Republic, very close to the border with Cameroon.

The presence of Wagner’s mercenaries in the country is due to the request of the Central African president, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, to support Army operations against the CPCs, led by the former president and rival of the current government, François Bozizé.

The attack, according to the Corbeau News portal, began around 05:00 local time, at the Béloko customs office. In the assault, in addition to the two mercenaries who died, a captain of the Central African Army was slightly injured.

There is also evidence of the death of a civilian during the assault, which caused enormous material damage at the post due to the burning of a tanker truck full of fuel after being hit by a rocket fired by the attackers.

The outlet highlights the harsh economic impact of the attack, since the Béloko customs office accumulated thousands of euros in cross-border collections.
