Nov. 9 (Portaltic/EP) –
Twitter has announced a new label with which they will identify official accounts, which will complement the current blue badge that verifies a user’s account on the social network and which becomes a paid account.
The blue badge is awarded to accounts that the company verifies as authentic, that is, that their author is who they say they are, and that they are also of public interest, relevant and active. The process until now only required the request by the user, and was completed at no cost.
Account verification will be part of the new Twitter Blue subscriptionas the current owner and CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, announced shortly after closing the acquisition of the social network.
Responsible for the redesign of Twitter Blue, Esther Crawfordhas confirmed that this badge, linked to the payment of the subscription, will be complemented by an ‘official account’ tag, as he has shared on his Twitter profile.
This label will allow users to distinguish accounts that have earned the blue badge from those that have been verified as official, and will be awarded, free of charge, to the accounts of governments, commercial companies, the media and other public figures.
Crawford has clarified that the new Twitter Blue will not include identity verification, since it is an optional paid subscription, which in addition to offering the blue badge will also give access to additional functions.
A lot of folks have asked about how you’ll be able to distinguish between @TwitterBlue Subscribers with blue checkmarks and accounts that are verified as official, which is why we’re introducing the “Official” label to select accounts when we launch. pic.twitter.com/0p2Ae5nWpO
