It finally happened! After years of waiting, Valve revealed a new video game. These first lines moved you, right? We are sorry to inform you that it is a lie orchestrated by a person protesting against the new Twitter verification system that came into effect when Elon Musk bought the social network.

As part of a strategy to improve profitability, Elon Musk updated Twitter Blue, the monthly subscription that provides benefits to users. Now, it costs $8 USD and is necessary to obtain the verification mark, that is, the blue icon that indicates that the account of a public figure or a company is official.

That said, anyone who contracts the service can verify their profile on the platform. The problem? Dozens of false accounts have already emerged that usurp the identity of companies and celebrities. And yes, someone has already posed as Valve, a studio responsible for high-profile video games like half life Y Portal.

Fake Valve Account Protests Elon Musk Over Twitter Changes
The fake @valvesotfware profile is identical to the official Valve account. It has the same description and pictures. The only notable differences are the number of followers, the date of creation and, of course, the number of posts. However, it is undeniable that his facade is very convincing.
Thus, the fake account shared a publication where it revealed Ricochet: Neon Prime, a “new competitive platform”. In the text, he stated that he will share more details next Thursday, November 10 at 10:00 AM PT. Needless to say, thousands of fans thought it was a genuine ad.
Nothing is further from reality. What happens is that the user behind @valvesotfware wanted to show that the new verification system is very dangerous and that Elon Musk makes a serious mistake.
“Twitter Blue is a problem, misinformation is very easy to spread and the damage it can cause can have a real impact on people; one much bigger than a fake ad for a game. You now own a massive platform and this is what you choose to do with it. Do better Elon Musk,” the user commented.
The profile that impersonated Valve has already been suspended and is no longer available.
How to distinguish fake Twitter accounts?
If we click on the mark of any profile, a message will appear indicating the nature behind the verification. Thus, the social network indicates if an account obtained the blue tick because it is subscribed to Twitter Blue. While it is an easy way to tell if someone is trying to impersonate a company or celebrity, it is true that it is not so obvious.
The Valve account prank gained a lot of visibility in the last few hours and hundreds of users lashed out at Elon Musk for the changes that have come to Twitter since he took office.
