March 20 (Portaltic/EP) –
This Sunday has ended the period given by Twitter to its users who use additional protection systems at login other than two-factor authentication (2FA) via SMS, which since Monday is included as an advantage of Twitter Blue.
Two-factor authentication is a system designed to add an extra layer of security at login by requesting an extra code or key after entering the password. In the case of the one that uses text messages, that code is received in an SMS.
Twitter announced in February that it would stop offering two-factor verification via SMS for free because it had detected that bad actors are “using and abusing” phone number-based 2FA.
The time granted by the social network to its users to change the system has ended this Sunday, which means that from this Monday, March 20, only those with a subscription to Twitter Blue will be able to choose to reinforce their login with it.
It is, however, the most popular option among platform users, but the one that is considered the least secure of all that it offers. Those who continue with the free Twitter account still have two multifactor authentication options: through an ‘app’ or with a security key.
