At least twelve people died this Thursday in an attack attributed to the armed group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the state of Gezira, south of Khartoum, the country’s capital, within the framework of clashes between the Army and paramilitaries. , who were declared in absentia at the beginning of the conflict in April 2023.

“The RSF has continued to commit bloody massacres against the citizens of the state of Gezira while attacking the city of Al Huda, committing widespread violations, causing the death of at least twelve people and leaving a large number of injured,” the Committee of Wad Madani’s resistance, according to the ‘Sudan Tribune’ newspaper.

Furthermore, they have denounced that most of these territories are controlled by the RSF themselves, who are dedicated to “murdering, looting, arresting and displacing” the villages of the region “taking advantage of the total blackout of communications and the Internet” in large part. part of the territory.

INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF DEATHS FROM THE FIGHTING IN EL FASHER

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health of the state of North Darfur has denounced the serious health and nutritional situation, and has raised the number of deaths to almost 350 due to the fighting between the RSF and the Army in the city of El Fasher, capital of the state, since last May 10.

This was confirmed by the general director of the ministerial portfolio, Ibrahum Abdalá Jater, to ‘Sudan Tribune’, after which he added that there are still bodies that have not been counted both inside the hospital and in the neighborhoods of Al Naser and Abu Shuk.

The war broke out on April 15, 2023 due to strong disagreements regarding the integration process of the paramilitary group – now declared a terrorist organization – within the Armed Forces, a situation that caused the definitive derailment of the transition opened in 2019 after the overthrow of the Omar Hasan al Bashir regime.

According to data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the fighting has already left more than ten million internally displaced. The conflict in the country, where nearly 50 million people live, has had its epicenter in recent weeks in the city of Al Fasher, capital of North Darfur, where nearly 800,000 civilians remain trapped in the midst of intense clashes between the Army and the RSF, who imposed a siege on the city.
