A tsunami threat has been issued this Sunday after registering a magnitude 7.0 earthquake near the island country of Vanuatu, in the Pacific Ocean.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology estimated the magnitude of the tremor at 6.9, and also ruled out a tsunami threat to the nation.
From the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the Peruvian Navy they specified that the earthquake in Vanuatu “does not generate a tsunami on the Peruvian coast”.
Meanwhile, from the similar service of the Chilean Navy underlined that the characteristics of the tremor “do not meet the necessary conditions” to generate a tsunami on the Chilean coast.
