Trump nominates his lawyer Alina Habba as presidential advisor

President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he will nominate one of his defense attorneys as counsel to the president in the case in New York for payments to hide compromising information.

Alina Habba, 40, defended Trump earlier this year, also acting as his legal spokesperson. Habba has spent time with the president-elect since the election at his Florida club, Mar-a-Lago.

“She has been unwavering in her loyalty and unmatched in her determination — supporting me through numerous ‘trials,’ battles and countless days in court,” Trump posted on his Truth Social social network. “Few understand better than Alina the weaponization of the ‘injustice’ system.”

Trump became the first former US president to be convicted of serious crimes when a New York jury found him guilty in May of all 34 counts in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election through a series of payments that provided $130,000. dollars to porn actress Stormy Daniels.

The payment was intended to maintain her silence about a sexual encounter she says she had with Trump a decade ago, when he was married. Trump denies the accusation and says he did nothing wrong.

In Trump’s first term, the position of advisor was held by Republican strategist Kellyanne Conway. Habba is of Iraqi ancestry and is Chaldean, which is the largest Christian denomination in Iraq and one of the Eastern rites of the Catholic Church.

Habba frequently accompanied Trump on the campaign trail and was one of the speakers at the late October rally at Madison Square Garden in New York.

On Sunday, Trump also announced that he is reinstating former staffer Michael Anton to serve as director of policy planning at the State Department. Anton served as spokesperson for the National Security Council from 2017 to 2018.

Trump said he will also nominate Michael Needham, former chief of staff to Senator Marco Rubio, as a State Department adviser. The Florida senator was chosen by Trump to be his next secretary of state.
