Toyota and NTT have given a step more in their solid alliance by announcing an ambitious joint project aimed at creating a society of safe mobility without traffic accidents. With this collaboration, the companies seek to integrate their strengths in the automotive industry and telecommunications to develop an artificial intelligence platform, called “Mobility AI Platform”, aimed at connecting people, vehicles and infrastructure.

Both companies have demonstrated in previous projects that they share fundamental values, such as industrial and technological development with a social vision, a people-centered philosophy and a global commitment that begins in Japan. Now, they seek to deepen these values and move towards a prosperous mobility society where security and freedom are in balance.

To achieve a traffic accident-free society, Toyota and NTT have identified the need for a collaborative approach that involves both the development of smart vehicles and the construction of advanced infrastructure. It is not enough to perfect autonomous driving technology; The goal is to create an environment where vehicles, people and infrastructure are in constant communication.

Toyota, in this line, has begun to develop Software Defined Vehicles (SDV), putting safety as its top priority. However, for this technology to be effective, it is necessary to have an infrastructure that supports high-speed and quality communication, an artificial intelligence platform capable of managing large volumes of data, and a robust computing structure. In this context, NTT, with its telecommunications experience, will play a key role in creating this connection network that will be the backbone of the Mobility AI Platform.

The creation of the “Mobility AI Platform”

The joint project between Toyota and NTT aims to create an artificial intelligence platform that is capable of processing and analyzing enormous amounts of data in real time. By integrating artificial intelligence and high-speed telecommunications infrastructure, the Mobility AI Platform will be able to connect people, vehicles and infrastructure, providing a safe and controlled environment that minimizes the risks of traffic accidents.

The platform will be made up of various elements designed to optimize the interaction between mobility and infrastructure. In addition, Toyota and NTT aspire to standardize this platform so that it can be used not only by both companies, but also by other industry players, as well as government and academic sectors interested in moving towards a world without accidents. This openness to other partners reflects the collaborative vision of the companies to consolidate a safe and sustainable mobility network.

To realize this vision, Toyota and NTT have announced a joint investment of 500 billion yen, which will be allocated to the development and implementation of the platform until 2030. This project will officially begin in 2025 with the development of the first elements of the platform , and it is expected that by 2028 it will already be operational in some areas selected for social testing. The ultimate goal is that, starting in 2030, the Mobility AI Platform will be ready for widespread adoption that will make a decisive contribution to reducing traffic accidents.

In addition to building this infrastructure, the project also aims to integrate an ethical and sustainability approach. By enabling a seamless and coordinated interaction between mobility and infrastructure, the platform will not only improve safety, but will also provide a basis on which to optimize the energy efficiency of transportation systems.
