New Saturday, new day of restrictions for Today No Circula. And as I’m sure you already know, the restrictions of the program devised by the CDMX Environment Secretariat (SEDEMA) has its own rules on Saturday.
This plan, designed to reduce polluting emissions in the atmosphere, takes some cars out of the equation specifically on Saturdays. In this way, the number of cars in circulation and, obviously, the polluting particles we breathe are reduced.
These restrictions therefore force some cars to stay at home where they apply. Where is this? In the 16 municipalities in Mexico City and in the following suburban municipalities of the State of Mexico:
- Atizapan of Zaragoza
- Coacalco de Berriozábal
- Cuautitlan
- Cuautitlán Izcalli
- Chalco
- Chicoloapan
- Chimalhuacan
- Ecatepec de Morelos
- Huixquilucan
- Ixtapaluca
- Peace
- Naucalpan de Juárez
- Nezahualcoyotl
- Nicolas Romero
- Tecámac
- Tlalnepantla de Baz
- Tultitlan
- Chalco Valley
What cars and license plates does Hoy No Circula Saturday affect?
Taking all this into account, the first thing to understand is how Hoy No Circula works and what rules apply on Saturdays. Restrictions that are put in place using the hologram of each car as a reference.
These limitations, which apply between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.they force some cars to stay at home every week and others, however, will be able to move freely. Lastly, some will only have to do it on alternate Saturdays…
To have a clearer picture of what we are talking about, Hoy No Circula Saturday applies as follows:
- Those that can circulate every Saturday
- Those who have to rest every Saturday
- Those who rest every other Saturday
Once we have all this in our heads. The first thing we have to be clear about is that the owners of cars with hologram 0 and 00 will not have to face restrictions on any Saturday of the year. On any Saturday, cars with this category can circulate whenever they want.
Quite the opposite happens with cars with hologram two. In this case, the owners are not so lucky and will be forced to stay home every Saturday of the year. Here, there is not much to think about: Saturday is synonymous with leaving the car at home.
Those who may have the most doubts are the cars with hologram one. In this case, the restrictions are applied alternately, week in and week out. This will depend on the license plate number. If the last number is odd, we will rest on Saturdays of odd weeks. If it is even, the opposite.
In this case, we are facing the fourth Saturday of the month of October. This means that cars with a hologram one and a license plate number ending in an even number will have to stay home.
Despite this, we must not forget that there are some exceptions that allow the circulation of specific vehicles like any other day of the week. In this case, Hoy No Circula does not apply and, of course, neither does Hoy No Circula Saturday:
- Those with hologram 0 and 00
- Those that run on electricity, natural gas or are hybrids
- Those who have a disabled license plate
- All those dedicated to urban transportation services (includes funeral homes)
- Those that offer school or passenger transportation
- Those intended for public safety and/or civil protection
If you fail to comply with these restrictions, the fine will be 20 to 30 times the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA), which is equivalent to 1,924.40 pesos and even 2,886.60 pesos.
