This was the Mario and Zelda cereal that Nintendo released in the late ’80s

The euphoria for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in the 80s was such that the most veteran gamers still remember that console well. Decades have passed since then and we want to remember one of the ways that those responsible used to promote it: a cereal called the Nintendo Cereal System.

As you surely know, we are seeing more and more official merchandise from Nintendo franchises. However, several years ago it was not so easy to see Mario, Link and other characters outside of video games.

Despite this situation, there were some exceptions, and one of the best examples was the Nintendo Cereal System, the best breakfast for all gamers who are fans of the Kyoto sagas.

Here you can see his commercial:

As you could see, the cereal shown in the video had a name very similar to the NES and offered a breakfast of champions, all this by offering 2 bags inside themed with Super Mario Bros. (fruit flavored) and Legend of Zelda (with a berry flavor).

In addition, each piece of cereal was shaped like different Nintendo objects and characters, including Mario, Link, goombas, koopas, hearts, keys, and the boomerang.

It is worth mentioning that the cereal was distributed in stores in the United States in 1988 and unfortunately it did not last long on the market, although everything indicates that it was simply part of a promotional campaign for classic NES games.

Of course a few years ago Nintendo did something similar with the release of Super Mario Odyssey on Nintendo Switch, at which time a Plumber’s Cereal was distributed and was a huge success, so we hope to continue to see this kind of product in the future.
