We have talked a lot about the life cycle of Microsoft operating systems. Products like Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 no longer receive updates or have technical supportso the most recommended option is usually to move to Windows 11.
However, there is also the possibility that, even with Windows 11 installed, some users will be left without updates and support. This is because the versions of the same operating system complete their cycle and are succeeded by newer ones.
Windows 11 21H2 is nearing the end of its life cycle
In this sense, all editions of Windows 11 21H2 (Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations and Pro Education) will reach their end of life (EOL) on October 10, 2023. Ad Microsoft itself has done it this week on its website.
It is a movement that, although it may take some by surprise, is not new. The Windows maintenance timeline states that versions for non-enterprise users are supported for 24 months after release.
Now, this means that all those who continue on Windows 11 21H2 after October 10 This year they will no longer receive security updates and will no longer be supported. The solution, however, is as simple as updating before the aforementioned date.
It may be that for various reasons or problems an operating system has stopped updating. To find out what version of Windows 11 we are in, we can press the Windows key + R and type winver to access the About window. If we see that our version is “21H2” we will have to update.
As of this writing, the recommended version to continue to receive support is Windows 11 22H2. To install it you can go to Windows Update and click on Search for updates. In case you have not received it automatically, it is good to check not to have the updates paused.
Once Windows 11 22H2 is installed you will find a good set of new features. The most important thing, however, will be that you will have the latest available version of Microsoft’s operating system. As a recommendation, unless there is a particular reason, it is recommended not to pause the updates.
