This game was going to come to Xbox Game Pass on day 1, but it was taken out of service

Although several companies will not go to gamescom 2022, Ubisoft confirms attendance

The Xbox Game Pass model has convinced many developers, especially independent creators who see the platform as the ideal way for their titles to gain exposure and popularity among players. Unfortunately, not all studios are able to successfully bring their projects to Xbox Game Pass.

We’re bringing this to you from Heart Shaped Games, an independent developer who recently revealed that their latest game failed to make it to Xbox Game Pass on time despite their best attempts. The title in question is We Are The Caretakersan RPG with strategy elements that debuted a few days ago and received very positive reviews.

We Are The Caretakers got locked out of Xbox Game Pass

The indie debuted on January 6 on most modern systems, including Xbox consoles. During a talk on the podcast Xbox ExpansionPass (via PureXbox), members of Heart Shaped Games confessed that their plan was to bring the title to Xbox Game Pass, apparently as a day 1 game.

The developers explained that they tried to bring their title to the popular service; however, they did not succeed. The creatives did not delve into it, so it is inferred that it simply did not happen due to time, development, or the game selection process by Microsoft and Xbox.

While Heart Shaped Games missed out on a day 1 launch on Xbox Game Pass, it doesn’t rule out bringing subsequent projects to the service entirely. However, for now there is nothing confirmed.

“”We tried! It won’t be on Game Pass (…) Who knows, maybe in the future, if we have a big release that could be there, but for now we won’t be on Game Pass,” said the indie studio.

We Are The Caretakers is an RPG with a sci-fi setting that was very well received by gamers. At the time of writing this, it has mostly positive reviews on platforms like Steam. Below is a trailer:
