This company has developed a wind turbine that works with the wind generated by vehicles

When we are told about wind turbines, we usually think of wind farms, like the one being built in Norway, with its huge blades moving in unison with the wind. This concept is correct, but not the only one. In the future we could see other types of wind turbines located in the middle of our cities.

Researchers from the University of Istanbul together with a company called Devecitech have developed small vertical wind turbines that, as promisedthey work with both natural wind, as well as that generated by the movement of vehicles traveling on the roads.

These new devices, which seek to take advantage of renewable energy from the wind, have been called ENLIL. Unlike traditional wind turbines, They have small blades inside that do not distract drivers. Plus, they have a small solar panel on top to help generate power.

The company ensures that each ENLIL can generate enough electricity to power two Turkish households for one day. And they also point out that they have taken care of other aspects, such as durability, promising a useful life of 20 years, and ease of assembly, maintenance and repair.

These devices also have other technological additions. A series of sensors located inside can measure the temperature, wind, humidity and CO2 level of the environment. The data produced by these could be used, for example, to study the environmental impact of cities.

The idea is undoubtedly very interesting, but it still has a long way to go. Devecitech has won the first prize in the Mercedes Benz Turkey Start Up Competition and has been highlighted in the Goal Setting meeting, but its wind turbines are prototypes that have been tested in some areas of Istanbul.

All the amazing uses we're giving used wind turbine blades: from bridges to power towers

Devecitech has yet to complete the development and research stage of its products, which may result in the final version of its products having a different look or features. The next step will be to get investors to build them in large numbers and create a marketing plan. In time we will know if they succeed.
