Third dialogue table: incentives, alliances and governance for the promotion of the circular economy in mining in Peru

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), together with the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru, the secretariat of the Annual Conference of Mining Ministries of the Americas (CAMMA) and the Deutsche Gelleschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ ) within the framework of the Regional Cooperation Program for the Sustainable Management of Mining Resources in the Andean Countries (MinSus), will carry out the Third dialogue table: incentives, alliances and governance for the promotion of the circular economy in mining in Peru, in Lima, on November 28, 2024.

The Third dialogue table: incentives, alliances and governance for the promotion of the circular economy in mining in Peru, took place on November 28, in Lima. He gave continuity to the topics that were raised in the First Dialogue Table: Transition of the regulatory framework to incorporate the circular economy in mining in Peru, and in the Second Dialogue Table: innovation, technology transfer and research around the circular economy in mining in Peru, carried out on November 13 and 27, respectively.

The objectives of the thematic tables were to seek consensus, identify the main gaps in regulations, innovation, technology transfer, research and development, incentives, governance and alliances for the promotion of the circular economy in the Peruvian mining sector. . On the other hand, generate a set of proposals to close these gaps and propose guidelines that allow moving towards the circular economy in mining in Peru.

The dialogue tables are the continuation of the activities that began with the Regional Seminar on Circular Economy in Mining in Peru, held on July 10 and 11, on strengthening the role of the circular economy in mining in Peru. In this sense, this third roundtable focused on exploring economic instruments, analyzing public-private alliances, presenting successful incentive experiences and discussing the multi-actor governance necessary to promote the transition towards new business models and promote synergies for financing circularity. in mining.

The dynamics of the event included presentations by experts, followed by talks and interactive dialogues, where gaps and best practices were discussed. The participants contributed ideas, questions and encouraged an exchange of knowledge, experiences and perspectives on the circular economy in mining in Peru among the different actors.

The event brought together government representatives, public policy makers, experts, academics, mining companies, civil society organizations, business associations and international cooperation, with the aim of agreeing on possible improvements in incentives, alliances and governance. so that the sector observes more efficient and sustainable circular practices, aligned with the highest standards, to promote greater competitiveness and sustainability of the mining sector in Peru.
