They manufacture large-scale chips with the Intel node 3, with 18% higher performance than the previous generation

Intel has commented that the production process of processors with the Intel node 3 on a large scale has begun, processors that offer 18 percent greater performance than those manufactured with the Intel node 4.

The company has advanced the manufacturing process of these 3nm processors in a post on its Intel Foundry blog, where it has insisted that this is its “definitive node” based on the fin field effect transistor (FinFet).

In this documentthe company has announced that its new Intel 3 entry-level process node improves performance by 18 percent with the same power consumption, and offers up to 10 percent more density than the Intel node 4 of the previous generation.

According to the technology firm, “this represents an entire generation of performance improvement” and “tremendous progress in just one year” that it has achieved through “optimizations in almost every aspect of the process.”

Specifically, Intel 3 introduces variants – Intel 3-T, Intel 3-E, Intel 3-PT – that have been designed and developed “incrementally” to reduce risk and enable consistent execution.

The first of these, the Intel 3-T node, offers silicon vias (TSV) for 3D stacking applications, such as image processing, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence (AI).

For its part, Intel 3-E adds a broad set of I/O for external interfaces, analog and mixed signal features; while the Intel 3-PT node combines all of these advancements into a single process and then adds even more performance improvements. It also includes support for 9 micron (um) TSV.

Intel has noted that the Intel Node 3 is also the first edge processing node from Intel Foundry and has been designed to be durable and used in a wide range of design and product applications.

Finally, it has indicated that processors with the Intel node 3 have already begun to be manufactured on a large scale in the R&D centers in Oregon (United States) and in the city of Leixlip (Ireland), where Intel Xeon 6 chips are also produced.
