The Japanese Police have arrested a man suspected of having killed four people the day before in the Japanese prefecture of Nagano, after he had barricaded himself in a building, early this Friday.

The officers, who have secured custody of a male twelve hours after the attack, are investigating the details of the incident on suspicion of murder, NHK television has reported.

According to police investigations, the arrested man is believed to be the son of Nakano City Mayor Masamichi Aoki, as he barricaded himself in the mayor’s house after the attack.

The security forces received around 4:30 p.m. (local time) the first notices warning of a stabbing against a woman who has lost her life. Two of the police officers who responded to the call have also been shot to death. Hours later, at dawn, the Police confirmed the death of an elderly woman, whose body was found near the crime scene.

During the incident, the authorities asked the population to take refuge and demarcated an area with a radius of 300 meters designated as an “evacuation zone”, going so far as to block the roads near the scene of the incident. In addition, an evacuation center has been installed in a secondary school, where around 60 people have been transferred.
