The spokesman for the US National Security Council, John Kirby, has acknowledged that the international community has moved closer to the Iranian authorities in the negotiations on the last shreds of Tehran’s return to the nuclear agreement, although there are still issues to overcome.
“It is true that we are closer today than we were two weeks ago,” the spokesman told , before thanking Iran “for its concessions on a couple of important issues.”
Kirby, however, has called for calm before the achievement of a possible imminent agreement because “there are still disagreements between both parties,” he explained.
Precisely this Sunday it was announced that the agreement could include four phases “to build trust between the parties” and would fully enter into force 165 days after its signing, according to a draft of the text published this Sunday by the Israeli newspaper ‘ Ha’aretz’.
Iran would release several prisoners and return to the terms of the pact in exchange for maintaining its current ‘stock’ of uranium and the lifting of sanctions. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard would continue to be included in the list of terrorist organizations, according to the initial text.
This draft could change in the face of the final agreement since Iran is currently reviewing the response presented by the United States to an initial agreement text presented by the European Union, and from which the information from the Hebrew media has been extracted.
Iran could give its opinion on the US review by the end of next week, according to Iranian outlet Nour News, affiliated with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).
