The US assures that the lack of dialogue with China can lead to an incident that "gets out of control"

June 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Secretary of Defense of the United States, Lloyd Austin, has warned this Thursday, during his official visit to Japan, that the current lack of communication with China could lead at any time to some type of incident that “could get out of control very quickly “.

Austin has criticized China for this lack of dialogue and has stressed the “importance” that both powers “can talk to each other to manage crises and prevent things from getting out of control unnecessarily,” reports .

“When we take a look at some of the things that China is doing in the international airspace of the region and in the international sea lanes (…) we see that it is very concerning and we would like them to change their attitude,” Austin blamed. at a joint press conference with Japan’s Foreign Minister Yasukazu Hamada.

However, Austin has qualified that for the moment China “has not yet done it”, but he is concerned, he points out, that at some point there will be “an incident that could get out of control very quickly”, so “it would be welcome any opportunity to engage” with the Chinese authorities.

The Pentagon said this week that Beijing had rejected a proposal for a meeting between Austin and Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu at the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore this weekend. However, from the Asian country they blamed Washington for the refusal due to the “destabilizing” actions it has been committing in the region.

The relationship between the two countries is not going through the best moment as the United States continues to strengthen its support for Taiwan and intensifies criticism of Beijing for its stance on the war in Ukraine.
