The Undersecretary of the United States Pentagon, Sabrina Singh, has confirmed this Thursday that the tanks that Washington will supply to kyiv will be Abrams M1A2, a new, better model, but of which there are still not enough stocks, so the shipment may take several months. .

According to the US authorities, the Abrams M1A2 is a new, significantly improved upgrade to the previous model, the Abrams M1A1, although the United States “does not have these tanks available,” reports .

As explained by Robert Abrams, former commander of the US Army and son of Creighton Abrams, the officer after whom this tank model was named, the difference between the M1A1 and the M1A2 is comparable to a wheel phone and a smartphone.

For his part, the head of acquisitions of the US Army, Doug Bush, has refused to clarify which of the three M1A2 variants will be the one that will be finally sent to Ukraine and has influenced Washington’s concerns regarding the logistics and maintenance of the tanks.

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, confirmed on Wednesday that Washington would send more than thirty Abrams model battle tanks to Ukraine. Shortly before, Germany had also unblocked the supply of Leopard tanks both by Berlin and by other European countries with these armored vehicles.
