The US and South Korea begin military exercises on Monday to “protect freedom”

March 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Armed Forces of the United States and South Korea plan to start a series of joint military maneuvers in the region on Monday with the aim of “protecting freedom” in the area.

The United States Forces in Korea (USFK) have indicated in a statement that the exercises, under the name of ‘Freedom Shield’, will take place for eleven days, until March 23. These are the longest maneuvers ever carried out by both countries.

With these moves, the two countries seek to send a message to North Korea as it threatens to develop its nuclear program.

“‘Shield of Freedom’ is designed to strengthen the alliance’s defense capacity and focus on specific scenarios within the framework of regional security,” the text collects.

Thus, the maneuvers make it possible to address a possible North Korean aggression and “put into practice lessons learned recently from other wars and conflicts,” as he has indicated.

They include the FTX Warrior Shield maneuvers, designed to enhance military collaboration in air, land, sea, space, cyberspace, and special operations, South Korean news agency Yonhap reports.

North Korea has criticized these maneuvers and has announced “important, practical” measures for the “offensive use” of deterrent war assets. South Korean media take it for granted that there will be North Korean military tests coinciding with the joint exercises with the United States.
