The US and Australia ask North Korea to commit to dialogue and address the human rights situation

Dec. 7 () –

The authorities of the United States and Australia have asked North Korea to commit to dialogue to achieve the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and address the human rights situation in the Asian country as soon as possible.

The heads of diplomacy of both countries have expressed concern about the record of violations, calling North Korea’s ballistic and nuclear program “illegal.”

Thus, they have indicated in a joint statement that they “share the common commitment that diplomacy is essential for denuclearization and the establishment of peace on the peninsula” and have called for an end to “destabilizing issues.”

North Korea has launched a record number of 63 ballistic missiles this year, which is more than double the launches made in 2021. In addition, the US government has warned that Pyongyang would be preparing to carry out its seventh nuclear test –the previous one was carried out in 2017–.

In addition, they have stressed the importance of “fully” implementing the sanctions against North Korea. “We are coordinated at the bilateral and multilateral level to implement the sanctions of the UN Security Council,” the text collects.

The United States last week designated South Korea as a “State that violates religious freedom”, a measure that has been taking more than two decades due to the situation of Human Rights in North Korean territory.
