The spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Stéphane Dujarric, has opined that greater cooperation between China and the United States would be “beneficial” for the world, especially on technological issues or climate change, after the foreign ministers of both countries have reestablished their talks to de-escalate tensions in bilateral relations.
“Anything that leads to greater cooperation, greater dialogue, a decrease in tensions between Beijing and Washington is welcome,” Dujarric said during a press conference.
The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, will travel to China this Friday as part of an international trip in which he will also visit the United Kingdom, as confirmed by the State Department, after days of speculation about a Blinken’s visit to the Asian giant.
The visit, which had been postponed for weeks, is the highest level since then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo traveled to China in 2018.
The tensions in the bilateral relations between Beijing and Washington increased in August with the visit of the then speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, to Taiwan. Later, earlier in the year, Blinken postponed a trip to China after a Chinese balloon passed through US airspace.
