The UN asks Elon Musk to respect the human rights of Twitter workers

In a letter, the diplomat disclosed his “concern and apprehension” about the role of the social network in the digital space, and that the first news after the transaction “is not, from my perspective, a good start.”

“Respect for our common human rights must be the parapet of the use and evolution of the platform,” he said, adding “like all companies, Twitter has to understand the damages related to its platform and take measures to solve them.”

In turn, the co-founder and former CEO of the company, Jack Dorsey, apologized to the company’s staff; “I realize that many are angry with me. I am responsible for everyone being in this situation: I increased the size of the company too quickly. I apologize for that,” he said.

He left the company in November 2021. The purchase of Musk, the world’s richest man, was finalized last week for $44 billion. After the announcement, the first actions were to dissolve the board of directors and the dismissal of 7,400 Twitter employees around the world, equivalent to 50% of its workforce.
