The Sudanese Army has accused a faction of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) of attacking its forces in an attack with “enormous losses” on both sides, in an attack that has taken place in the southern state of Kordofan. South.
“Our forces under the command of the 54th infantry division in Kadugli (state capital) have suffered a treacherous attack by the SPLM despite the ceasefire agreement renewed annually by the Sudanese government,” reads a statement.
“Our forces have responded to the rebels and repelled the attacks, inflicting huge losses on them. We have also lost several martyrs and (there are) numerous injuries,” the letter continued.
This attack takes place in the context of the conflict between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), due to tensions surrounding the integration of the latter into the Armed Forces, a key part of an agreement signed in December to form a new civilian government and reactivate the transition open after the 2019 overthrow of Omar Hasan al Bashir, damaged by the October 2021 coup, in which the prime minister of unity, Abdallah Hamdok, was overthrown.
The SPLM is an armed faction in Sudan that had already signed a declaration in March 2020 with the Sudanese transitional government, which stipulated a comprehensive ceasefire with the Army mediated by South Sudan, reports the Sudan Ajbar news portal.
