The Secretary General condemns the attack in New Orleans

He Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, condemned in the strongest terms the attack in the American city of New Orleans, where a driver ran over a crowd gathered to celebrate the New Year, killing at least 15 people and injuring more than 30.

The mass car crash occurred on historic Bourbon Street in the city’s French Quarter on January 1 shortly after 3 a.m. local time.

In a statement from his spokesperson, António Guterres extended his condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and to the Government and people of Louisiana and the United States. He also wishes a speedy recovery to the injured people.

American driver who is an ISIS sympathizer

According to press reports, the truck driver was a American citizen of the state of Texas.

The suspect, 42, was killed in a shootout with police that injured two officers.

Apparently, the person responsible for the attack was an ISIS sympathizer, since FBI investigators found a flag of that terrorist organization and improvised explosivesin the rental vehicle and other nearby locations, according to the FBI.

They investigate possible link to vehicle explosion in Las Vegas

US authorities are also investigating possible links between the crash and a deadly vehicle explosion in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning.

Reports indicated that a Tesla Cybertruck exploded near the entrance of the Hotel Trump International on New Year’s Day. The police said that The driver died and seven other people were injured when a combination of fireworks, gas tanks and camping fuel were detonated.
