The rise in house prices in Spain doubled that of the EU and the eurozone in the third quarter

The increase in housing prices in Spain during the third quarter of 2024 was 2.8% compared to the previous three months, when it had been 3.6%, which represents doubling the rate of quarterly increase in costs of houses in the entire European Union and the euro zone, where the increase in price was 1.4% in both cases, according to Eurostat data.

Compared to the third quarter of the previous year, the increase in house prices in Spain was 8.3%, the highest since the first quarter of 2022 and well above the averages for the EU and the eurozone.

Specifically, the rise in house prices in the EU compared to the same quarter of the previous year accelerated to 3.8% year-on-year from 3%, its largest increase in two years, while for the eurozone the increase was 2.6% year-on-year, the largest increase since the end of 2022.

Among the Twenty-seven, the largest quarterly increases in house prices corresponded to Bulgaria (3.9%), Portugal (3.7%) and the Netherlands (3.6%), while prices decreased by 0.6 % quarterly in Finland and 0.5% in Estonia.

Relative to the third quarter of 2023, the largest price rise in the EU was observed in Bulgaria (16.5%), Poland (14.4%) and Hungary (13.4%), while prices fell annually in France (-3.5%), Finland (-2.8%), Luxembourg (-1.7%) and Germany (-0.7%).
