MADRID 29 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, has once again called for calm after the violent events recorded this Thursday in several cities in the country during the post-electoral protests, which have already left dozens dead and has warned that if this continues they could enter a point of no return.
“We are going to stop the destruction, what we should have allowed to advance and did not do so will weigh on our conscience, because there are countries that are in a dead end because they have sunk into confusion and there is only death, destruction and looting “Nyusi said this Friday, according to the Lusa agency.
Nyusi has appealed to his compatriots to stop the deaths, both those of protesters at the hands of the security forces, and those of those officers who have fallen as a result of the episodes of violence of the last month. “If each one does their part, if each one of us does a little, this will stop,” he said.
In that sense, he has asked for a “cool head” to resolve the political crisis, which has already left at least 70 dead and some 200 injured, among them a woman who was run over on Thursday in Maputo by an Armed Forces vehicle, a fact recognized by the authorities themselves.
The opposition Venancio Mondlane has been asking his followers for the last month to take to the streets to claim his victory in the October 9 elections, which the electoral authorities have given Daniel Chapo, of the Liberation Front of Mozambique (FRELIMO), who governs uninterruptedly since 1975.
